About Friends of Troy Gardens

Troy Gardens was born of a community vision for a unique parcel of state-owned surplus land. The Friends of Troy Gardens was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 2001 and created what is now one of Madison, Wisconsin’s hidden treasures, and a place that many people call home.

The mission of the Friends of Troy Gardens is to inspire people to love, care for, and steward the land. We promote community-based decision-making, participation, and leadership by a wide diversity of people in our land management and programs.

The goals of the organization are to:
1. Develop and steward the land in a sustainable manner.
2. Increase food security for residents of Madison's Northside.
3. Develop educational programs on nature, gardening, nutrition and the environment.
4. Engage numerous community organizations and educational institutions in creating a "learning community" around the land.
5. Create an aesthetically pleasing, accessible, natural areas resource that will be available in perpetuity for widespread community use.
6. Become an economically stable and financially sustainable organization with a diverse income stream, continuity in leadership and an effective board and staff.

Friends of Troy Gardens envisions a world where people live and learn together in sustainable communities and where all people have the tools to grow food and steward the environment.
